The company&#8217;s second flight, which is part of <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/science\/space\/2025-is-going-to-be-another-big-year-for-commercial-moon-missions-160038622.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:under NASA\u2019s Commercial Lunar Payload Services;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a> (CLPS) program, is <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/nasa-sets-coverage-for-intuitive-machines-next-commercial-moon-launch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:scheduled;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">scheduled<\/a> to launch no earlier than Wednesday, February 26, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The company is once again sending one of its Nova-C landers, nicknamed Athena, which is expected to take about a week to travel to the moon before attempting a landing around March 6.<\/p>\n<p>Athena is carrying NASA instruments, including a drill and mass spectrometer, which will be used to attempt one of the first on-site demonstrations of resource use on the moon, according to the space agency. These tools will measure volatiles in the soil at the landing site in the lunar South Pole.
