Notably, Le Chat swiftly rose to the top spot for free downloads on the iOS App Store in its home country, France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a television interview prior to the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/tag\/france-ai-action-summit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI Action Summit<\/a> in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron endorsed Le Chat, saying, &#8220;Download Le Chat, which is developed by Mistral, rather than ChatGPT by OpenAI \u2014 or any other alternative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not the first instance of an AI app gaining widespread popularity. In <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/05\/25\/chatgpts-new-app-comes-out-of-the-gate-hot-tops-half-a-million-installs-in-first-6-days\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">November 2023<\/a>, OpenAI&#8217;s AI chatbot, ChatGPT, made a significant impact. Initially available only to iOS users in the U.S., it garnered <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/05\/25\/chatgpts-new-app-comes-out-of-the-gate-hot-tops-half-a-million-installs-in-first-6-days\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">500,000 downloads within six days<\/a>. According to Appfigures&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/01\/29\/chatgpts-mobile-users-are-85-male-report-says\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">latest statistics<\/a>, ChatGPT has now been downloaded 350 million times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between January 10 and January 31, the mobile app of AI player DeepSeek also achieved one million downloads. However, this was just the beginning, as the Chinese app went viral in late January, attracting <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/01\/27\/deepseek-displaces-chatgpt-as-the-app-stores-top-app\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">millions of additional users<\/a> in a matter of days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mistral also faces competition from established Big Tech companies.
