This comes after Chinese authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/12\/23\/alibaba-antitrust-probe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prevented Alibaba<\/a> from going ahead with what would have been the largest public offering in history back in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Liang, who <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/14\/deepseek-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-ai-chatbot-app\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">founded DeepSeek<\/a> in 2023 as a subsidiary of his quantitative hedge fund, High-Flyer, gained significant attention last month. This was after DeepSeek&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/12\/26\/deepseeks-new-ai-model-appears-to-be-one-of-the-best-open-challengers-yet\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">publicly available<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/01\/27\/deepseek-claims-its-reasoning-model-beats-openais-o1-on-certain-benchmarks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI models<\/a> demonstrated strong performance against leading models from OpenAI and other American AI companies.
