As Gundam GQuuuuuuX approaches its midpoint, the series is shaping up to be a captivating tale of its trio of young protagonists and the forces that surround them, set in an alternate version of the Gundam universe. One thing that has become apparent with each new episode is that this series is created by individuals who are deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the original Gundam series.

Set in a reimagined future where the Earth Federation lost the One Year War, GQuuuuuuX has numerous opportunities to incorporate familiar characters from the original 1979 anime. The series has already introduced notable figures like Char Aznable, who has left a lasting impact on the narrative despite his relatively minor presence. However, instead of relying on well-known characters like Amuro Ray, Sayla, or Bright Noa, the series has opted for a largely original cast, peppered with obscure references to the original show.

The primary cast of GQuuuuuuX is both original and filled with nods to the 1979 series, but in unexpected ways. Challia Bull, a character who appeared briefly in the original show, has been reimagined as a major figure and potential antagonist in GQuuuuuuX. Other minor characters, such as Cameron Bloom, Mosk Han, and Dren and Denim, have also made appearances, showcasing the creative team’s deep knowledge of the original series.

The series’ use of these minor characters is a testament to the creative team’s dedication to the original series. Each week, a new character from the original show appears, often in a unexpected way. This approach makes the series feel like a love letter to the original Gundam, with the creative team sharing their passion with die-hard fans. The story remains accessible to new viewers, with the references serving as a bonus for those familiar with the original series.

The fanservice in GQuuuuuuX is not the primary focus, but rather a shared language between the creative team and fans. It’s a way for the team to show their appreciation for the original series and invite viewers to join them on this wild ride. The series’ absurd sincerity is endearing, making it easy to trust the creative team and follow them wherever the story may lead.
