A significant development has occurred that may impact the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6<\/em>, as 2K has revised its plans for another game, Borderlands 4<\/em>. The latest installment in Gearbox’s series will now launch on September 12, 11 days earlier than initially announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following speculation about a potential delay, Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford stated<\/a> that “the team has been working very hard, and everything is going great, actually. In fact, everything’s going kind of the best-case scenario. The game is awesome, and the team is cooking.” As a result, Gearbox and 2K have decided to move the release date forward. Gearbox explained<\/a> that this decision was made after “a lot of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work.”<\/p>\n

Sony is hosting<\/a> a dedicated State of Play for Borderlands 4<\/em> on April 30. The stream will run for approximately 20 minutes and can be watched on the PlayStation’s Twitch<\/a> and YouTube<\/a> channels at 5 PM ET.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the revised release date for Borderlands 4<\/em> has sparked intense speculation about the potential implications for Grand Theft Auto 6<\/em>. The latter is still scheduled to arrive this fall<\/a>, and 2K will likely want to maintain a buffer of at least a few weeks to avoid cannibalizing Borderlands 4<\/em> sales. If the fall release window remains in place for GTA 6<\/em>, it is likely to arrive in October or November, ensuring a release before Black Friday.<\/p>\n

There have been reports that publishers and studios are delaying the announcement of release dates for their fall games to avoid clashing with GTA 6<\/em>. Sony, however, has already locked in fall dates for major games, including Marathon<\/em><\/a>, which will be released on September 23, and Ghost of Y\u014dtei<\/em><\/a>, which is slated to hit PS5 on October 2.
