The company will be reducing its operations at the CAMI plant in Ontario by eliminating one of its two shifts and idling the facility for a period of 20 weeks, starting in May.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This development marks the latest challenge in the brief yet eventful history of BrightDrop. General Motors established BrightDrop as a separate entity <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/01\/12\/gm-targets-delivery-companies-with-new-ev-business-unit-brightdrop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">within the company in 2021<\/a>, but later <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/16\/gm-absorbs-commercial-ev-unit-brightdrop-ceo-is-out\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">integrated it back into the company in 2023<\/a>. In 2024, BrightDrop&#8217;s vans were subject to a recall due to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/01\/17\/gm-recall-brightdrop-vans-drive-unit-fires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">several instances of battery fires<\/a>.
