This morning, Lucasfilm released a new look at the second and final season of Andor, which provides a tense examination of the sacrifices that both Rebels and Imperials are willing to make in the escalating Galactic Civil War. While the trailer builds upon previously glimpsed footage from the first trailer for the season and the special look video, it also adds some intriguing connections and raises several interesting questions.

The Shadow of the Empire

A recurring image in this trailer is the ominous presence of Imperial carriers and capital ships in the distance, which adds to the sense of urgency and danger. This image parallels a similar moment from season one, where Cinta saw a Star Destroyer arriving over Aldhani after the heist. The trailer suggests that Saw may be entrenched on Jedha, watching as a Star Destroyer looms over the city.

Cinta and Vel

It’s heartening to see the war-torn sapphics, Cinta and Vel, together in the trailer, as they navigate the growing divide between Mon Mothma’s side of the rebellion and Saw Gerrera’s partisans. A glimpse of Vel from the recent season two “special look” video shows her training insurgents on Yavin IV, but without Cinta by her side. This raises questions about Cinta’s fate and whether she will join Saw instead.

A Different Kind of Mission

"Andor

We see more of the tense conversation between Luthen and Cassian, discussing a “different kind of mission” that could have significant consequences. Luthen’s cryptic warning that “it will burn, very brightly” suggests that this mission may be connected to the events that Cassian will later describe to Jyn in Rogue One. The mission might involve the Ghorman Massacre, which is depicted in the season two behind-the-scenes footage.

Kleya and the Road to Rogue One

"Andor
© Lucasfilm

We see more of Luthen’s assistant Kleya, who informs Cassian about the Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star. This could be the first time Cassian learns about the battle station, as suggested by the cut to a shot of Krennic overseeing its construction.

The Monster That Comes for Us All

"Andor
© Lucasfilm

The trailer fills in more details about the aftermath of the Ghorman Massacre, showing Mon Mothma’s emotional speech in the Senate, which will ultimately lead to her departure and the events of Star Wars Rebels season three.

Choking on Your Aspirations

"Andor
© Lucasfilm

We see a disturbing shot of Dedra, who appears to be having a panic attack, clutching at her neck. This could be a result of her past trauma on Ferrix or a reaction to a horrific event she has witnessed, rather than a sign of Darth Vader’s presence
