Typically, Spider-Man stories are portrayed as vibrant and visually striking, particularly when adapted into live-action or animated formats. The upcoming Spider-Noir series is likely to follow this trend, although it may also be presented in a unique way that deviates from the traditional colorful palette we’re accustomed to.

In a recent interview with ComingSoon, actor Lukas Haas revealed that the series might have two separate releases: one in color and the other in black-and-white. He mentioned that during filming, the monitors displayed the footage in monochrome, which created a remarkably authentic atmosphere. Haas recalled, “I would often look at the monitor and think I was viewing old footage, but it was actually just the live feed from the camera at that moment. The team did an excellent job with the filters, making it resemble genuine 1930s black-and-white film.”

Previous on-screen appearances of Spider-Man Noir have consistently featured a black-and-white aesthetic, aligning with the noir theme that defines the character. It would be interesting to see this visual style continue in the Spider-Noir series; the last time Marvel employed this stylized look was in Werewolf by Night. Apart from that, there have been a few other recent examples, such as Godzilla Minus Color and Hundreds of Beavers, but these are just a few instances of this trend. Marvel shows often struggle with visual flair, and this could be an excellent opportunity to experiment and try something new, especially since Spider-Noir exists within its own universe and has more creative freedom.

Regardless of whether it’s presented in color or black-and-white, the Spider-Noir series is set to air on MGM+.
