{"id":10059,"date":"2025-03-14T14:29:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T14:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fusionmindlabs.com\/blogs\/lockbit-ransomware-developer-extradited-to-us\/"},"modified":"2025-03-14T14:29:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T14:29:40","slug":"lockbit-ransomware-developer-extradited-to-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fusionmindlabs.com\/blogs\/lockbit-ransomware-developer-extradited-to-us\/","title":{"rendered":"LockBit Ransomware Developer Extradited to US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 51-year-old dual citizen of Russia and Israel, Rostislav Panev, who is suspected of playing a crucial role in the development of the notorious <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/tag\/lockbit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LockBit<\/a> ransomware gang, has been handed over to the United States from Israel, as announced by the Department of Justice on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panev&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/12\/20\/third-member-of-lockbit-ransomware-gang-has-been-arrested\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arrest in Israel took place in December<\/a>, making him the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/10\/police-arrest-suspected-lockbit-operator-as-the-ransomware-gang-spills-new-data\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">third individual<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/06\/16\/feds-catch-another-lockbit-hacker-justice-department-announces\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">apprehended<\/a> for involvement in LockBit. Following his arrest, he remained in Israel awaiting extradition proceedings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to prosecutors, Panev worked as a developer for the LockBit ransomware group from its inception in 2019 until at least February 2024. He, along with other LockBit developers, was responsible for designing the gang&#8217;s malware and maintaining its infrastructure.
