Nintendo Playtest Program
Nintendo is now accepting applications for its latest Playtest Program, which aims to recruit 40,000 testers, a significant increase from the 10,000 participants it sought for its first event. This new program is open to active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, and for the first time, it will support both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, and their Nintendo accounts must be registered in specific regions, including Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico. Individuals can apply solo or in groups of up to four people, with the understanding that some data will be shared among group members. The selection process will differ by region, with Japan using a raffle system and other regions operating on a first-come, first-served basis.
Application Timeline and Details
Applications will be accepted from July 18 at 6 PM Eastern time until July 21 at 11 AM Eastern time. Although Nintendo has not disclosed the specifics of the playtest, it has indicated that it will involve testing the same service that was tested in October 2024. Previous participants have shared that the test involved playing a Minecraft-like game, where players could build structures using blocks and interact with others in a shared world, potentially explaining why group applications are allowed.
Context and Previous Events
For those who may recall, Nintendo’s first Playtest Program was announced with the goal of testing an unnamed Switch Online feature, seeking 10,000 participants. The current program expands not only in the number of participants but also in the devices supported, now including the Switch 2. The company’s decision to increase the participant pool and expand device support suggests a broader scope for the service being tested. Interested individuals can sign up through the official Nintendo playtest website during the designated application period.
